DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening of holiday and classical tunes performed by Kristen Young (violin) and Joe Bush (piano)! \nBUY TICKETS NOW \nJoseph Bush is a graduate of the University of Connecticut (UCONN) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music under the tutelage of Irma Vallecillo. He received his masters in piano performance from Indiana University studying under Alexander Toradze. Joe has played in numerous venues over many diverse genres. He has taken part in the Wendell P. Whalum recital series at the Hampton University Ministers’ Conference. In December 2016 he debuted with the South bend symphony alongside his teacher Mr. Toradze playing the first movement of Prokofiev’s 3rd Piano concerto. After graduating he has been the artist in residence at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Newburgh New York. Since being there\, he has revived and developed their choral program to include 20+ members. He has also organized and performed in numerous concerts. In 2018 Joe was featured in the Howland Chamber Music Circle pop up concert accompanying cellist Daniel Frankhuizen and soprano Rachel Hall\, and playing solo works. In 2020 he won second place in the National Association of Negro Musicians (NANM) New York\, regional competition where he was also the recipient of one of the two national encouragement prizes. Joe makes his living teaching privately\, maintaining a studio of over 50+ students. He also accompanies all over Fairfield County and the greater New York area. \nKristen Young graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Master of Music in Violin Performance and a Graduate Certificate in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship\, and from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Music in Music Management. Kristen is the Director of Performing Arts at MoCA where she heads the Music at MoCA Concert Series and the Heida Hermanns International Music Competition. She also teaches violin at the Westport School of Music and plays in the American Chamber Orchestra.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on December 5th from 6:45p-8:00p for “The Art of Mindfulness” at MoCA Westport. This meditative workshop is designed to be inclusive and welcoming for participants of all backgrounds and experience levels. In this program\, participants embark on a journey of self-awareness and bond with others through practicing mindfulness during a gallery tour at MoCA Westport\, culminating in a sound bath meditation experience led by Lisa Pak of Hummingbird Healing Center. \nSound bath meditations have been shown to reduce stress\, enable deep relaxation\, strengthen the immune system\, enhance creativity\, and uplift the spirit. Participants begin by lying down on yoga mats (think Savasana) and use blankets\, bolsters\, eye pillows\, and other props to become comfortable while the sound starts to “wash” over you. \nLisa uses a wide palate of sound healing instruments\, including gongs\, Himalayan bowls\, crystal bowls\, Native American-style flute\, percussion\, and vocals. She leads you through a journey of the senses\, eventually resting in a profound space of deep inner peace. \nRegister Here

When not trucking around with her own piano\, Miki enjoys a career of solo and chamber music\, with a special affinity for contemporary music. Miki has been featured at venues and occasions such as: Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall\, Helsinki Music Centre\, The Arctic Philharmonic (Norway)\, the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater (NYC)\, Roulette (Brooklyn)\, MATA Festival (NYC)\, Toronto Summer Music Festival\,  Music on Main (Vancouver)\, Chicago Symphony Center’s Macy’s Day of Music\, the Banff Centre\, New Music New Haven\, PianoFest in the Hamptons\, Art Base (Belgium)\, and Moulin d’Andé (France). She has been featured for live interviews and performances on WQXR (NYC)\, WFMT (Chicago)\, KUAC (Fairbanks)\, West Virginia Public Broadcasting (Charleston)\, and All Classical Portland (Oregon). In 2022\, she made her soloist debut with the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra. She has commissioned several solo pieces with support from New Music USA\, and in 2021 released her debut album “A Kind of Mirror” featuring music for piano and electronics by composer Brendon Randall-Myers. In the summers\, Miki is a faculty member of Heifetz Institute in Virginia. Miki holds degrees from Yale School of Music (Artist Diploma) with Wei-Yi Yang\, Eastman School of Music (Master of Music) with Natalya Antonova and Northwestern University (Bachelor of Music) with James Giles.Miki is an ultramarathon runner and raced 100 miles through the Oregon mountains this summer. She lives in Boston with her husband Kristopher Tong (violinist\, Borromeo Quartet) and their rescue German Shepherd mix named Shakira. \n[www.mikisawada.com] \n\n\nAbout Gather Hear Tour:\nThrough the Gather Hear Tour\, Miki travels to all 50 states with a piano\, performing in community gathering spaces\, free to the audience. Gather Hear Tour’s mission is to bring high quality live classical music to communities across socioeconomic and political boundaries. By taking classical music outside of formal concert halls – where not everyone might feel welcomed – and into community gathering spaces\, Gather Hear uses music as a connective tissue that helps us find what unites us as humans. Gather Hear Louisiana (2022) was the fifth tour after Alaska (2017)\, West Virginia (2018)\, Massachusetts (2021)\, and Utah (2021)\, totaling 70+ free public performances.
