Join us for a special presentation by Diana Mashia\, Founder & CEO of Invest in Her Art of Thursday\, November 3 at 6 PM. \nDiana will discuss the Power of Story and the role that narratives have in shaping identity\, fandom\, advocacy and positive social impact. She will help guide conversation around how we can better utilize stories and the arts to build awareness and advance women and non-binary people. \n\n\nThe presentation begins promptly at 6PM\, so arrive early to experience the From the Pen to the Knife exhibition with complimentary access\, and to purchase a drink or cocktail at our weekly Happy Hour. Seating is available. \nThe event is free\, but advance registration is requested. \nMore About Diana \nDiana Mashia is the Founder & CEO of Invest in Her Art\, a discovery platform and marketplace uplifting the voices of women and non-binary artists. Through storytelling\, education and advocacy\, Invest and Her Art is creating a new fandom for these artists and increasing diversity\, equity and inclusion across the fine art world and beyond. \nDiana has spent her career at the intersection of art and tech. Her work is informed by her career in venture capital and on Wall Street\, as well as her advocacy work and research on public policy issues and social enterprise. She holds a B.A. from Barnard College in art history and economics and a Master in Public Administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs\, where she concentrated on issues related to management\, policy\, and sustainability. SUMMARY:Opening Reception: From the Pen to the Knife
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an evening of community\, art\, cocktails and complimentary light bites on Saturday\, October 15 from 5 – 7 PM at MoCA Westport. The opening reception is free and open to the public; no RSVP is required.  \nFrom the Pen to the Knife features the watercolor paintings of Marian Christy. Christy is the pioneer of the Knifed Watercolors® style\, a process that creates original watercolors using only palette knives and puddles of paint. \nThe exhibition will be on view at MoCA Westport from October 15 – November 27\, 2022 and was curated by Ruth Mannes\, Executive Director of MoCA Westport; Liz Leggett\, MoCA Westport’s Director of Exhibitions; and visual artist Tom Berntsen. \nChristy was an award-winning journalist for the first chapter of her life. She was a writer for The Boston Globe at a time when women had limited journalistic opportunities. Her writing garnered two Pulitzer Prize nominations and was considered groundbreaking in the areas of fashion and celebrity reporting. \nShe considers her time as an artist as a second chapter of her life\, a time where she pivoted from “the pen to the knife.” She explains of her Knifed Watercolor process\, “My focus is to make this unique signature a 21st century contemporary style\, elevating watercolors to new depths and dimensions. I want to pull the viewer into the image\, arouse curiosity but\, most of all\, to make an emotional connection silently\, one-on-one.” \nThe exhibition is generously sponsored by Hofstetter Baron Group at Wells Fargo Advisors. \n  \nFeatured Image Courtesy of the Artist

Gallery seating will be provided. \nThe eloquent pianist Roman Rabinovich has been highly lauded by The New York Times\, BBC Music Magazine\, the San Francisco Classical Voice and others. He has performed throughout Europe and the United States. \nPraised by The New York Times for his “uncommon sensitivity and feeling”\, the eloquent young pianist Roman Rabinovich was top prizewinner of the 12th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Israel in 2008\, He made his Israel Philharmonic debut under Zubin Mehta at the age of 10\, and has since appeared as a soloist throughout Europe and the United States\, most recently with orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Sir Roger Norrington\, Scottish Chamber Orchestra\, Meiningen Hofkapelle\, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música\, the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra and Szczecin Philharmonic in Europe\, and Seattle Symphony\, Buffalo Philharmonic\, Sarasota Orchestra\, Des Moines Symphony\, Sinfonia Boca Raton in the US. \n  \nLearn more and purchase tickets.
