SMASH

Presented in both grandiose and intimate scales and settings throughout our galleries, Minter’s videos are exhibited together for the first time in a public institution. Seeped in lush imagery oscillating between figuration and abstraction, Minter’s works encapsulate feminism, pleasure, voyeurism and notions of beauty, desire and chance.

Marilyn Minter’s custom-designed AMC Pacer automobile featuring an interior, surround viewing of her work Green Pink Caviar, is also exhibited for the first time.

Minter is a contemporary American painter, photographer and video artist recognized for examining the relationships between the body and cultural beliefs about sexuality, desire, and pleasure. Her paintings and richly colored photographs and videos have been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions and have been included in group exhibitions all over the world. She currently works and lives in New York, NY.

MoCA Westport would like to thank Alissa Friedman and Salon 94 for their contribution to this exhibition. We also thank Jane and David Preiser for their generous support in funding the production of this exhibition. Without their gift, we could not have delivered such a dynamic and exciting video installation.
