It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved Board Member Emeritus, Joyce Thompson, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Joyce’s loss is profoundly felt by all of us at MoCA, as well as the greater arts community.

Joyce was a dedicated and passionate advocate for the arts, and her leadership at MoCA Connecticut was instrumental in shaping the institution’s vision and success.

“Legacy and sustainability have always been paramount to me.  Ensuring that MoCA CT remains a thriving cultural institution for future generations is a commitment I hold dear.”

As a founding member of The Westport –Weston Arts Council now known as MoCA Connecticut, President of The Westport Arts Center, a board member of MoCA CT, and her friendship with Heida Hermann led to our concert series and taking over the Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition. Joyce consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to fostering creativity, expanding access to the arts, and nurturing a community of artists and art lovers alike. Her tireless support and generosity helped us realize many of our most ambitious goals and left an indelible mark on the museum’s growth most recently through the creation of the Joyce Thompson Art Fund.
